For ARCTICtecture: The Ice Shanty Project, the Shelburne Museum invited TruexCullins to conceive and fabricate an architectural folly inspired by the forms and functions of traditional ice shanties.
The Ice Ark is comprised of an exterior plywood skin fastened to vertical bents using red paracord, resulting in a regular pattern of light holes perforating the exterior. Clear polycarbonate panels on the end elevation bring daylight into the interior and offer protection from the biting winter winds.
The Ice Ark was awarded the 2016 AIA New England Merit Award for Excellence in Architecture in the Special Projects category.
