Building Vermont’s Future with New Career Education Facility

For over 50 years, the Central Vermont Career Center (CVCC) has empowered young people from 18 towns to build practical skills that lead directly to rewarding careers after high school. Today, the region faces a critical workforce shortage in health care, construction, manufacturing, and technology. At the same time, CVCC is forced to turn away 200-plus students each year due to limited space and outdated facilities.

This November, voters across Central Vermont will have the opportunity to invest in the future by supporting a bond proposal that will fund construction of a new Career Center campus. This project is more than a facility upgrade – it’s a once-in-a-generation investment in our local workforce, designed to help students thrive in a rewarding career, contribute to the region’s economic vitality, and ultimately, stay in Vermont and build a future here.

A Resilient Path Forward

Despite pandemic-related delays and changes in Vermont’s school construction funding, CVCC has remained steadfast in its mission. Becoming an independent district in 2022 allowed CVCC to align its vision with both student needs and state goals. In 2024, TruexCullins led a comprehensive site selection process and concept design study, in partnership with Lavallee Brensinger Architects. This work reflects a continued commitment to educational excellence and community impact.

Empowering Students, Strengthening Communities

As architects, we are proud to collaborate on a project that reflects the values and aspirations of our state. The new CVCC campus will serve as a hub for learning and opportunity, connecting students, educators, and local employers in a space built for long-term impact. This project is about more than architecture – it’s about creating environments where students thrive, communities grow, and Vermont’s workforce is strengthened for generations to come.

What’s Next

The project continues to advance, with recent efforts focused on communications and outreach ahead of the upcoming bond vote on November 4, 2025. Residents of all 18 towns will have the chance to vote on this proposal, which represents a community investment in both students and the long-term stability of Central Vermont’s economy.
