Remembering Wayne Sornberger

During these last few days of the year, we pause to remember those who passed before us. And this year, our hearts are full as we remember our dear friend and colleague Wayne Sornberger.
Wayne passed away on November 10, 2025 at the age of 86. Our condolences go out to all who knew him and are affected by his loss. We certainly remember him fondly and are grateful for all the time that he was with us.
Wayne worked for TruexCullins for over 30 years, from 1977 until his retirement in 2008. During that time, Wayne was a generous and warmhearted presence in the office. He was always one to share a smile, full of gratitude and good humor. (And he probably authored every door schedule that this office produced in those 30 years.)
Wayne was also a train enthusiast, once even taking the train to a site visit for a Blood Center project in Virginia. When Bill Truex learned of Wayne’s aversion to flying, he cancelled his flight and joined him on the train ride.
After his retirement, Wayne maintained close ties with the firm. He regularly joined us for holiday parties and summer picnics. He was particularly fond of our annual company field trips, joining us on the bus visiting architectural sites and spending time with old friends.
In his final years, he often stopped by the office with his caregiver, showing off the space with pride and appreciation. It was clear that TruexCullins held a special place in his heart, and Wayne will forever hold a special place in ours. Rest in peace, friend.
