The Aerie Point project involved a complete renovation of a historic stone house and the reconfiguration of an 1860’s Greek Revival farmhouse into two separate guest cottages.

The project also included the complete renovation of an existing carriage house, the addition of a pool house, a restored English barn, livestock barn, and equipment storage shed.

A Stately Stone House gets a Historic Revival

 

This 100 acre estate featured a number of historic structures, including the stone house, an abandoned farmhouse, and other barns and outbuildings.

The 1920s main house was fully renovated and expanded to take center stage on the point of the property.  Local Panton Stone was quarried and used to build serpentine walls throughout the property, connecting the buildings together and relating back to the main stone house.

This lakeside residence has undergone a renewal that gently retains its original character while providing much-needed updates. Complete design renovations were implemented at the main house with modest additions. The interior reconfiguration was directed at reducing the number of rooms while enhancing their spatial qualities.

The original 1860’s farmhouse at Aerie Point was transported from its roadside location and reconfigured into two lakeside guest houses. Each cottage maintains elements of its original Greek Revival construction, such as the pillared side porch, off-centered entry, sidelights and symmetrical windows.

The thread that connects these guest cottages to the main house and pool house is the meticulous character of the new landscape elements featuring stone walls, bridges, ponds, plantings and other connective constructs.

The project also included the complete renovation of an existing carriage house, along with the addition of a pool house, restored English barn, livestock barn, and equipment storage shed. Buildings, landscape and infrastructure are integrated with extensive stone walls, landscaping and shoreline stabilization.
