A New Identity for a Historic Property

Casa Madrona Resort is a treasured landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The interior design establishes a new identity for the resort and embraces the elements that make the Casa Madrona so special: the striking hillside location with panoramic views of San Francisco Bay; the rich history and nautical setting; and the creative and independent spirit of the Sausalito community.

The Hillside Cottages

The main hotel is complemented by 22 cottages perched on the hillside overlooking San Francisco Bay. The cottages were transformed from a mix of applied styles to a series of romantic rooms with a consistent fit and finish.

The street-level lobby and reception space combines the historic charm of the Victorian property with the modern flavor of the contemporary hotel, melding the nautical and shipbuilding culture of the area with the creative and independent spirit of the Sausalito community.

The Victorian Mansion

The 1885 Mansion is the crown jewel of the Casa Madrona Hotel, perched on the property’s spectacular hilltop, overlooking brilliant views of Richardson Bay and the San Francisco skyline.

Working with MetWest Terra Hospitality, TruexCullins redesigned the timeless estate to bring a beautiful, modern sensibility to the historic Victorian property. Nautical influences marry with contemporary design and Victorian accents to inspire and engage the senses in a setting that evokes calm, serenity and the ultimate in comfort and luxury.

The Spa at Casa Madrona

The major renovation of Casa Madrona included a total upgrade of the on-site day spa.  The project included the addition of new steam rooms, treatments rooms, and new finishes throughout.  The result is a nautical oasis within the historic property.

The concept for the Spa at Casa Madrona is unique and speaks to the four elements of life – earth, wind, fire and water.  The spa lounge is adjacent to an inviting outdoor space, where these elements are incorporated into the overall guest experience.

The Sausalito Furniture Collection

This hospitality furniture line was custom designed for the Casa Madrona Resort. The custom wood furnishings includes tables and casegoods, 4 poster beds, and bathroom vanities.

Ribbon Mahogany veneer is combined with crème painted drawer fronts and desk surfaces, with clear glass knobs and ring pulls that allude to the rich nautical history of the oceanfront property. The transitional design is at home in a historic setting, while offering a forward-looking design with clean lines and restrained detailing.
