The General Services Administration selected TruexCullins to undertake the design of the United States Border Station at Highgate Springs, Vermont. The project involved master planning of the project site and integrated program uses, site design to accommodate border crossings and the integration of 5 different buildings and their users within the overall site.
The Justice Department, INS, USDA, Border Patrol and GSA are among the users of the facility. The design solution accommodates high traffic volume from cars, buses, and trucks within a confined site, harmonizing facility functions of five separate buildings, while presenting a consistent and dignified design aesthetic. The border station was completed using GSA masterspecs and metric drawing standards and construction was accomplished without interruption of normal border crossing operations.Photos by Tom Cullins and Sandy Milens
