TruexCullins

Portland Harbor Hotel

Portland, ME

Located in the Old Port, the Portland Harbor Hotel celebrates its unique position where the historic city meets the sea. TruexCullins led the transformation of the lobby and lounge, which was transformed to strengthen the connection to the street and to embrace Portland’s maritime heritage. The feeling is akin to a Sea Captain’s home.

Guestroom interiors suggest a personal connection to the water and the nearby island boat launch. A playful palette lends a seafaring touch, including an artistic interpretation of nautical flags and guestroom casegoods that are inspired by historic steamer trunks. The interiors throughout are influenced by the eclectic, artistic vibe of Portland, incorporating the work of local artisans such as Thomas Moser and Angela Adams.

Previously, TruexCullins worked with Archetype Architects on the design of contemporary suites within a new building addition. The unique suite layouts feature bathrooms with whirlpool tubs and sliding glass doors between the living space and bathroom. A central fireplace allows guests to experience all of the amenities simultaneously within the openness of the guestroom. All the furnishings, finishes, decorative lighting, bedding and soft goods are harmoniously coordinated to create an especially tranquil guest experience.
