Moscow Economic School Construction Underway

by David Epstein, August 1, 2014

Construction is underway of a new middle and high school building designed by TruexCullins on the Zaitsevo Campus of the Moscow Economic School (MES) in Moscow, Russia. Located in the western region of Moscow, the 12,700 SQM (136,000 SF) campus facility includes space for classrooms, administration offices, a 500-seat theater, library, gymnasium and natatorium. A bridges connects the old and the new facilities, allowing both faculty and students to access the cafeteria in the existing facility.

The new educational spaces are designed based on MES’s unique learning community concept, which features a cluster of learning spaces that includes classrooms, seminar rooms, group meeting space and offices for each 36-student team. These team spaces are located on the perimeter of the facility to maximize daylighting. Skylights and floor penetrations provide natural light deep into the interior of the space. The library is featured in the front of the facility. With its high visibility and central campus location, it is designed to be the heart of this learning institution.
